St John's Residential School

High School

In the Senior School, Student care sits alongside the academic and enrichment provision, in order to ensure that pupils receive a broad, balanced education in a supportive and caring environment.

There is a strong Student team in St John's Residential School Kollam who works closely with parents to ensure all pupils are fully supported. The Assistant Head is responsible for this important aspect of school life and works closely with the heads of year, the tutors, Director and Principal in all matters pastoral, as well as child protection, safeguarding, and e-safety.

The Senior School’s development program encompasses the Student care provision and includes, amongst other things, wellbeing initiatives, form time and assemblies. The program follows the World Health Organisation (WHO) defined areas of health, namely social health, mental health and physical health; each term we focus on a specific area.

We recognize that, sometimes, pupils would rather talk to someone other than a teacher so we offer a counseling service in school. We also encourage the older pupils to take responsibility for younger pupils through the attachment of  students to form groups. This year we will also be training a core of Year 12 students to take on the role of Peer Mentors who will learn to identify and deal with potential welfare issues.

St: John's Residential School is delighted to introduce its new initiative to reward academic and extra-curricular achievements from Year 5 to Year 8. The Diploma encourages pupils to aim high and achieve throughout all elements of their curriculum and enrichment; formalizing achievement in a celebratory and inclusive way.

The Diploma is distinct for each year group; if a pupil joins the school in Year 6, they can immediately start working towards the Silver Diploma. The Diploma is weighted evenly between the Academic and Enrichment sections, giving us the opportunity to reward success both inside and out of the classroom.

Sport at St: John's Residential School

The St: John's Residential School Department fosters an inclusive approach to sport, delivered with a diverse choice of sporting opportunities. In addition, the PE Department aims to develop a culture in which all pupils will be inspired to enjoy, engage and compete in physical activity. A key focus for the Department is raising the standards of achievements for all pupils across the age and ability range, leading to whole school improvement in a variety of sports.

Staff in the Department at St:John's Residential School come from a variety of sporting backgrounds and include experienced coaches, Olympians and international competitors. The school has wide expertise across a number of sports with hockey, swimming, triathlon and athletics to name just a few.

With the provision of high-quality facilities and resources, we aim to further develop a culture in which all pupils are inspired to enjoy, engage and compete in physical activity. Ultimately, pupils are challenged to raise their attainment, extending their potential and develop a life-long active healthy lifestyle.

The school has exceptional sports facilities including a 25m indoor swimming pool, AstroTurf pitches, indoor and outdoor courts and a fitness suite. With an 88-acre campus, many sports take place on site as part of the curriculum and Enrichment Programme.

These excellent facilities help our pupils achieve their full sporting potential, whether during PE lessons or extra-curricular activities that are embedded in our school day.
